The Tommy Club

Tommy Club BadgeWelcome to The Tommy Club. An exclusive club with a guaranteed limited membership of the first thirty six Manx Grand Prix riders who achieve the wonderful feat of lapping at 120mph during a race. Specially formed to commemorate Tommy's amazing record breaking achievement in the 2004 Junior Race - the first rider to break that elusive barrier - and on a 600 too.... We have gone for 36 to represent each of his 36 years.

The first five members are:

1. Tommy (2004 Junior Manx)Tommy Clucas - MGP 2004
2. Allan Jackson (2004 Senior Manx)
3. Ian Pattinson (2004 Senior Manx)
4. Davy Morgan (2004 Senior Manx)
5. Seamus Greene (2005 Senior Manx)

The Manx Motor Cycle Club has agreed to incorporate this award into the Senior Prize Giving Presentation each year, as and when we have new members, a member of Tommy's family will present the awards at the annual ceremony.

Each member receives one of the "factory" Tommy baseball hats together with a Commemorative Certificate and a very special badge.

2008 Update:

For a third year in a row no riders qualified for the Tommy Club during the 2008 MGP - Dan Kneen won the Junior Race, however, the fastest lap in this race was set by Michael Weldon at 117.004 mph. In the Senior Race held on Saturday 30 August, Adam Barclay, riding a 750cc Suzuki, came within a whisker of joining the club with a lap speed of 119.996 mph.

2007 Update:

For the second year in a row no riders qualified for the Tommy Club during the 2007 MGP - Derek Brien who won the Junior, lapped at 119.438mph but Mats Nilsson had the fastest lap of the race at 119.580mph and the Senior Manx was cancelled. Tommy's record as the only rider to have lapped at over 120mph on a 600cc machine still stands three years on.

2006 Update:

No riders qualified for the Tommy Club during the 2006 MGP - Craig Atkinson, who won the double, lapped at only 116.63 in the Junior Race and 116.27 in the Senior Manx.
